I grew up in Victoria, B.C., where trips "up-island" fostered my love of
nature and the wilderness of the West Coast, and a decade of living in
Toronto (although adding an appreciation for urban and industrial settings)
just increased this admiration for British Columbia when I moved back.
I'm primarily self-taught in photography, and have been more of a hobbyist
at it for some years, but am now taking the plunge into the adventure of translating my film to digital, and displaying my work on the wide world
of the Internet.
The focus in the images I take has typically been on nature and the
incredible patterns and structure that can suddenly appear to the eye,
but as these also occur in man-made constructs, and from the influence
of viewing the images of Vancouver photography icons like Fred Herzog
and Jeff Wall, my interest has shifted to include more of the urban landscape.
I still work in film (6x4.5 and 35mm), and scan my images for
representation here. Anyone whom I've spoken with in the last year
knows of the adventures I've had with my scanner(s) and in getting
decent quality images from them!
To me, film still offers much better dimension and depth, so I prefer
to offer my images in print, rather than digital format, and typically
in a size of 11 x 16 (inches) or larger.
Not that I'm completely against offering an image in digital format,
but it may depend on the original film and the capacity to offer you
what I consider to be a quality replication of the image.
I've attempted to provide a good representation of my images here,
but have many more, so if there is a particular theme or type of image
you like, and don't see exactly what you're looking for, please contact
me with a description, and can hopefully accommodate your needs.
